2009 Season - Week 15

Santa Claus and the Grinch

With just two weeks to go it’s time for people to make their moves. Some are full of Christmas cheer whilst others are grumbling “humbug”. After her Hall of Fame performance last week Cheryl came up just 2 points short of making the Scoring Hall again. Craig scored 31 and George had 42 to secure their promotion bids. Ron scored well but is now 55 points behind George. Meanwhile in the Premiership the Three Wise Men are Mark, Aaron and Johnnie. Mark has been proud of the fact that he has never been in the Conference but going into week 15 he was at the bottom of the table and in trouble. Then his team put up 36 points and he moved up two spots to sit one place from safety. The only problem is that Aaron is above him and Aza outscored Mark by a point, so extending his safety net from 5 points (over Dave G) last week, to a much healthier 31 points with just 2 weeks to go. It’s burst pipes for John and Dave G though. After a couple of good weeks where it looked like the Bargaineers were chasing safety a 14 point week sees John now 39 points from safety while Dave G’s disasterous 5 point week has him just 2 points ahead of John. At the top of the table the nearly man is nearly there. Since Johnnie won the BUMS in 1996 he has finished second four times but this week he became Rudolph and moved to the head of the field with a very useful 44 point tally. Chief burnt the Turkey, finishing week 15 with just 18 points and things got worse for him on Tuesday when his kicker Nick Folk was cut by Dallas. Folk missed 10 field goals this season short changing Chief of 30 points. Johnnie now leads by 16 points and Chief cannot sign a new kicker, Folk has been cut and so could be signed by another team (like that’s gonna happen) and so is not done for the season unlike a player that has been placed on IR. No new BUMS went on IR after this weekend so the only one on a roster who has yet to be replaced is Lion RB Kevin Smith on AP’s team. Week 14 was a good week Collectively we scored 483 points last week for an average of 30.19 per owner. That’s the 19th highest total since the inception of this cult 14 years ago. The highest average was 39 points per owner which is unlikely to ever be bettered as it happened in 1995 when there were only 5 owners! The highest weekly score ever was 521 points in week 16 of 2005. BUMS on Seats. Week 16 has a number of huge match-ups which will have a big impact on the playoffs. It starts with San Diego @ Tennessee on Christmas Day and we will be at HQ on Boxing Day from 6pm to see it. Then on Sunday were back at HQ to see Jacksonville @ New England followed by Denver @ Philadelphia. On Monday evening we are at Johnnies for the NFC East meeting of Dallas at Washington which Dallas must win to stay in the playoff chase. Cheryl will be doing food so let us know if you are planning to attend either day. So that’s it, all we need to do is settle down for a very merry Christmas. Best wishes to one and all.
